Those little things

This morning I slept until 8 o'clock. So what I hear you say. It is Saturday, that isn't unusual. Well for me it is a little unusual. I am the one that gets up with the mini mi's in the morning and miniest is often up very early. Even when they sleep in or , like this morning miniest sleeps in and mini number one wakes but stays quiet, I am usually awake from habit, just in case or because my back is aching (quite regular that one). So this morning when I slept until 8 and I hadn't gone to bed late, it was an unexpected little pleasure. One that made me think about how we would get everything done that needed doing, but a pleasure non the less.

This got me thinking of all those other simple pleasures that put a smile on your face at the most unexpected moments. Maybe it's walking past a garden and smelling the newly mown grass, or putting on a coat that you haven't worn for a couple of weeks and finding a five pound note. The giggle of one of the mini's when you say something that isn't at all funny.

Maybe going to bed after a shower or bath into clean sheets is your foible, or cracking the seal on a jar of coffee makes you smile. How about that feeling you get when you get a letter or email that isn't a circular or spam or a bill? Or even better when a parcel arrives in the post.

Some people love the feeling of an imending sneeze, others prefer the actual nasal explosion.

Last week I added a new one to my list. we went to Bolton Abbey in the Yorkshire Dales and it rained. It really rained. It was torrential at times. I wasn't wearing a coat as it was very warm, but I did havemy big golf umbrella. There was something soothing about hearingthe rain on the umbrella, knowing that I was in the middle of a field with no shelter, but not getting wet. Simple pleasures.

What's yours?

  1. Oh, I really fancy a lie in - no chance tomorrow morning, sadly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Sunday.

  2. The simple things are quite often what life is all about, being happy with what you have. It's good to appreciate the small things, life for too many people nowadays is too material.
I have also been to(and enjoyed) Bolton Abbey, many times in my life, it is only 15 miles from here. and a beautiful place.
